Regarding the scale of the business (Business Manager Visa)

For the “Business Manager” visa, the scale of the business must meet one of the following criteria:

1. The business is conducted with two or more full-time employees residing in Japan, in addition to the person engaged in its management or administration.
2. The amount of capital or the total amount of investment is 5 million yen or more.
3. The business is recognized as having a scale equivalent to the above ① or ②.

• Regarding ①, a “full-time employee” refers to a person who has resident status, such as a Japanese national, Special Permanent Resident, Permanent Resident, Spouse of a Japanese National, etc., or a Long-Term Resident. It is also important to note that this does not refer to two part-time employees. The manager/administrator must be exclusively engaged in their duties, and the on-site work must be manageable by the two full-time employees.

• Regarding ②, the source of the 5 million yen or more is a key point. This money can be saved and prepared by the applicant themselves, or it can be borrowed from family members like parents. It can also be borrowed from an acquaintance. The important thing is that you must be able to prove in writing and with documents “how the money was saved,” “how it was procured,” and “from whom it was transferred to you.”

• Regarding ③, an “equivalent scale” refers to a business scale such as the following examples:
