Specified Activities 46 (Work Visa for Japanese University Graduates)

“Designated Activities 46” is a system introduced to allow foreign nationals who have graduated from a Japanese university or similar institution to work in a wide range of occupations, utilizing their specialized knowledge and high level of Japanese language proficiency. The key point is that it allows them to engage in “on-site work (such as customer service and sales),” which is not permitted under the “Engineer/Specialist in Humanities/International Services” status of residence.

Official Name:

Benefits of This System:

  • Wider Job Opportunities: You can work in customer service, sales, and other roles that were difficult to obtain with the traditional “Engineer/Specialist in Humanities/International Services” visa.
  • Leverage Your Skills: This system expands the fields where you can utilize both your Japanese language proficiency and the knowledge you gained at university.
  • Easier for Companies: It makes it easier for companies, especially those in tourism and service industries, to hire international talent.

Important Points to Note:

  • Junior College Graduates: While graduates of junior colleges are eligible, their scope of activities may be more restricted.
  • Not Just Simple Labor: The premise of this visa is to utilize your “university-level education + high Japanese language proficiency,” not just to fill a labor gap.
