Requirements (Engineer/Humanities/Int’l visa)

The requirements for permission to apply for a “Engineer/Specialist in Humanities/International Services Visa (Status of Residence)” are as follows.(GIJINKOKU VISA)

・Eligibility
“Activities to engage in work that requires skills or knowledge in the fields of science, engineering, or other natural sciences, or in the fields of law, economics, sociology, or other humanities, or work that requires thinking or sensitivity based on foreign culture, based on a contract with a public or private institution in Japan”

・Conformity to the criteria

①　Meets any of the following

A　University graduate with a major in a related subject, or equivalent

B　Completed a specialized course at a Japanese vocational school with a major in a related subject

C　More than 10 years of work experience (including majoring institutions such as universities)

②　International work must fall under either of the above

A　Engaged in translation, interpretation, language instruction, public relations, advertising, or overseas trading work, clothing or interior decoration design, product development, or other similar work

B　Has more than 3 years of work experience in work related to the work to be engaged in. However, this does not apply to university graduates who engage in work related to translation, interpretation, or language instruction.

③ The applicant will receive remuneration equal to or greater than that of a Japanese national.

The activities that the applicant intends to carry out in Japan must correspond to the activities specified for each status of residence in the Immigration Control and Refugee Recognition Act (eligibility), and the applicant must meet the standards specified for each status of residence in the Ministerial Ordinance (compliance with standards).

In addition, the applicant must obtain permission by proving the above “eligibility for status of residence” and “compliance with standards” by submitting documents. It is also necessary that the applicant has no special problems such as a criminal record.
